I recently picked up a digital copy of the June 2010 edition of Yarn Forward Magazine, because it had a super cute pair of socks that I wanted to make, “eventually”. While e-flipping through the pages, I found this adorable lace scarflet pattern called Liza Rose, and decided that this was a better use for my lovely skein of Polar Morn Malabrigo Worsted than, say, making another 198 Yds of Heaven (not to say that the first one wasn’t beautiful, but this pattern spoke to me more). And thus, Polar Rose was born!
The construction of the pattern was really interesting. I guess it was along the lines of modular knitting; you’d knit one part, pick up stitches and knit the next part. It was also a really fast knit. It’s cozy, it’s cute, and I love it. Pictures behind the bump!
So, I recently participated in the Swap on a Budget swap, and I got the most awesome package from Meilynne, and thought I’d show it off.

I find myself so close to being done with my Geodesic Cardigan, and yet so unwilling to work on it. So I did what all good unmotivated knitters do… I started a new project! *grin* I was particularly good though, and picked a quick knit to distract myself with.
I picked up a single skein of Malabrigo Worsted in a yummy color (Bobby Blue) and set on making 198 Yards of Heaven [project page]. I had a few false starts while I got used to the yarn and it’s uncanny ability to slip off my metal needles, but once I got past the first few rows it was fairly smooth sailing, stopping only to recover the rogue yarnover that fell off without me noticing. I’ve completed my Summer Lace Shawl, which is a variation of the Christmas Lace scarf. Knitting a lace pattern on big needles does wonders for opening it up! The yarn is Lorna’s Laces Worsted in a colorway made exclusively for one of my local yarn shops.
